Got the coupe with the t-tops. To my way of thinking this is a convertible with a roll bar. Remove the t-tops, remove the rear window, lower the windows and you're set to go. No soft top to have slashed is a good thing and considering you can only drive a convertible a limited number of days per year, it never made sense to me to buy one when the t-tops offer all the options, all the time.
A convertible with a hard top installed is just as functional as a coupe w/ T-tops. Al comes down to personal taste.
Someone who is serious about performance would not buy a '75 Vette either.
Fact is Verts can be fast as well, how man LeManns winning cars 2004 models included have no roof?
Would you say a Shelby AC Cobra is not a "serious performance car"?
Given the choice of a coupe or vert, i'm saying you are either more concerned about bleaching your teeth and getting a tan ( cali types ) or more concerned about performance, thats all. Them narley roll bars you need for the verts get in the way of the hair doo as well.
When it comes to all out racing, once you've put a roll cage in, it makes no difference.

I wanted a convertible, my wife talked me into a coupe, I hate to admit it, she was right. With rear window out and tops off, it is a convertible, but I can button up when too cool for no top, which is a lot of the time in San Diego... Yes I know this is a desert, but our normal temp is about 60 degrees.
No offense but to me if it's a vette it has to be a vert. I wish they were like miatas only come in verts...IMO they look way better in verts, its a VETTE thing, much more fun.
just no reason for me to want a coupe, only coupe thats ever been in this family was a 79 and ofcourse there wasn't a vert option way back in 79 when my dad bought it.
Since the C5 started from a clean sheet design as a convertible, it makes sense that it looks awesome as a convertible. I have one and I'm partial. Just about everyone I know who has a convertible will drop the top on any given chance they can. I guess if they regretted their decision, they would probably have the top up on nice sunny day. I just don't see it that often, but again, I'm on the MS gulf coast.
I haven't been on here much over the last few months. Gotta say I love, ahem, Paul Borowski's avatar! That said, when I went looking for a Vette, I only looked at '68-'72 Vert's. Nothing wrong with the coupe's, they have great lines, but I wanted a convertible as it's a summer driven car and looks great with the top down. I also figured it would hold it's value better, but that was a secondary concern.
