I installed and adjusted the carb linkage on my new 383 with a Speed Demon 750 today. My question is do I need to install a throttle return spring? The linkage and throttle blades return to the "off" (closed) postion as soon as I let go of the throttle, even from WOT. But, will it do this once I have the motor running? I didn't know if maybe the Speed Demon had a built in throttle return. Or am I missing something here? Someone please enlighten me
Thanks in advance

Yes. Absolutely. You need a throttle return spring. The spring on the throttle shaft is not designed or intended to provide safe and consistent throttle return - Barry Grant even makes a point of this in their otherwise pretty poor installation instructions.
Yes! and you actually need two. Do not rely on the spring built into the carb. You need two return springs, they are wound differently and typical one is placed inside the other. This is a saftey feature. Since the springs are wound different they break at different stress points and age.
Nothing gets your attention more than the throttle going wide open when your not expecting it. The car suddenly seems to have 600 HP and while your thinking about stomping on the clutch or turning off the ign. the world is going by at light speed.
Don't mess with bubba throttle returns.
