I now realize I forgot to install the insulation in the tunnel. I bought that preformed silver tunnel insulation and had it laying right here, but I got in a hurry to get the motor in and forgot about it. Am I going to miss it? Does it make the cockpit that much cooler?
I'll bet you can get the tunnel insulation in even now. A PITA but worth it to keep heat down in the cockpit. Also get the "C" collar that CC sells - it is a foam piece that you slide up between the bellhousing and the tunnel of the car.
Now the measurement: I notice that in one of your photos you have that massive engine hovering over the car sitting on jackstands, and all under the open garage door! Can you measure the distance from the bottom of your door down to your floor? I want to pull my engine in my garage but I have a nightmare that I won't be able to crank the hoist up high enough without hitting the garage door overhead...
That is an awesome engine!

djcwardog,
From the floor to the open garage door measures 91". The jackstands were set around 13". I did some eyeballing and measuring before going through with the install with the garage door open. I probably had 4" to spare.
This could not be more timely. I am installing a TKO 600 behind a 502, this week, into my '66 convertible. I have never done an engine / trans install as a unit, always the 2 parts separately. It looks SO long assembled, relative to the engine compartment, and the angles etc. make it tricky as a 1 man job... The 91" / 13" height data is key. I will keep you all posted.
Did you have to remove any brackets from the Lakewood scattershield before installing? I am doing the same thing this week, I notice my new Lakewood bellhousing has an extra bracket on the drivers' side that does not appear to be necessary for a vette install... and in the pics yours doesn't have that bracket... I assume you cut it off???

Thanks,

I cut the bracket off. I posted about this before hand and a forum member said take it off as it won't fit or be hitting against the tunnel.
Im jealous, thats the way i would do it next time i put a new engine in my car. its running to well to mess with it good luck keep us posted how you like the combo
