Default Quick Help! Dropping the steering column :S

I am replacing the ignition switch on top of the steering column and I need to get the column down far enough to replace it. I have the two bolts out under the cover, and the two bolts that go through the firewall. The thing will not drop down more than 1-1.5 inches.

Does the plate against the floorboard come out?

Thanks!

The bottom plate is mounted to the coloumn, if you take the plate off on the firewall side (where the reverse lock out cable attaches) the coloumn shoudl drop more.
From experience I had to split the rag joint to get it down far enuff.

Thanks, I am going to go disconnect the rag joint, hopefully that will do it. What a PITA!

OK! I got the column out, and replaced the switch, now I get the full 12.3 volts to the starter solenoid!!!

No more fiddling with the key to get it to start!

This might be a bit late, but there is an adjustment procedure to make sure that your ignition switch is synchronized with your ignition lock cylinder. These are the two links:

If you have a T&T column

If you have a standard (non-adjustable) column
