vacuum system- allowable leakage?
if i connect my Mityvac to the headlight control lines, i can pull 20-25 inHg easy and it will hold for a while. if i connect to the heater control lines, it takes a several pumps to build up vacuum and once i get over 20 inHg, it gauge drops down to 10 in 4-5 seconds. is this leakage insignificant when you consider how small the line diameter is and how much air the engine moves?

If your hoses are in good shape, you should be able to put the headlights up for a day or two, or cycle them 4 - 5 times. It's probably just a matter of preference as long as the leaks aren't so bad that they affect the performance of your engine.
