Are headers worth it?

Default Are headers worth it?

I have a set of Hedman headers from my uncle. Is it worth putting them on if I have to keep a cat. on it, or should I just leave the manifolds on? The whole exhaust needs to be replaced either way.

If the cat has never been changed its probably clogged solid. But, if you add headers and new cat you're probably looking at an easy 30-40 hp increase.

get the free set,then get the headers hooked up to a set of straight pipes with some cheap turbo mufflers(free flow).when it's time to re-certify, swap in the manifolds and smog stuff.
Do you have mobile set ups or do the police check??
we have nothing, and i like it just fine. the nearest sniffer is 250 miles away and comes around to offer free checkups once a year. no penalties, if you go in voluntarily they give you the printout,that's it.

For a bone stock or close engine, I doubt you will notice much improvement with headers. If you are making 350-400 hp or so it may help.

My bone stock Goodwrench 350 went from 0-60 in 7.1 seconds to 0-60 in 6.5 seconds with Hedman 1 5/8" headers. Like turning an L-48 into an L-82. Auto transmission.

I also noticed another 2/10ths of a second going from 2.25" true dual exhaust to 2.5" true dual exhaust on the same motor.

I don't have to get it inspected but I was told that if you run into the wrong state trooper he can have your car towed to a dealership to have it put back to spec. all at your expense. I also can't find any shop that will put the headers on for me without a cat. Some of the shops said I shouldn't waste my time with the headers and others were eager to do it, I think just for the money. I can do it myself without the headers but there will have to be some fabrication with them.
