Did the L88 ever come with a Autotrans? If so, whats the tech spec on the converter?
As Mike noted, the L-88 was available mid-1969 model year. The transmission itself was coded "CX" ("CY" in Chevrolet passenger cars that used a similar application, i.e. solid lifter big block/automatic) and used a special torque convertor that was fully brazed and retained with six bolts (rather than the usual three). Full throttle upshifts occurred at 6200-6400 rpm.
The L-88/M-40 cars differed from their manual transmission counterparts in that they used a copper radiator with a fan shroud. The copper radiator was required because the aluminum radiator did not have provisions for transmission lines and the fan shroud was most likely a result of the cars intended purpose (drag racing) which might see it idling more than in road course racing.
This "CX" transmission was said to have been used in 255 Corvette applications during 1969 (it was later used with the 1971 LS-6)... This would include all L-71/L-89/L-88?ZL-1 combinations. The production number that gets tossed around with L-88/M-40 combination is 17, but that number is calculated (total L-88 production less M-22 production) and not from any official GM production records.
