I have been having some trouble lately with the '71. Starts fine, warms up and runs great until after about 30 minutes and things start to get the usual toasty under the hood. Then, it starts to stumble after I stop for a light. The more gas I try to give it, the worse it runs and then it has even died on me and took a little to get it restarted. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
It has the "brass" internal fuel filter in the Quadrajet. It looks clean, but... who knows. The age of the fuel pump is unknown but doesn't look that old. Just want to get some ideas before spending tons of money on things I don't need.
Well, I figgered it out... changed the filter with a new "paper" one and it happened again... the carb is flooding, looks like the float is sticking when it gets hot. Maybe time for that shiny new Edelbrock!!
Make sure that you are not boiling the fuel in the carb., if thats the case a new carb will do the same thing. You might just need a spacer to keep the carb a little cooler.
