How much horsepower or torque would a Torker II intake (which clears a stock C3 hood) take away from a 454 that has an Air Gap intake with a 750 Edelbrock carb? Or would it just shift the two ratings elsewhere within the RPM range? The engine is rated at 450HP and 500 lbs torque and has the Summit 1303 cam. Thanks for any help or input.
I was thinking of going to the Torker II on my bigblock to avoid a change to the L88 hood for the needed hood clearance. I was at a carshow & talked to the Edelbrock techs at their booth. They said I'd pick up approx. .2 in the 1/4 mile w/ the Torker vs. the stock Q-jet intake but they strongly recommended going w/ the RPM Airgap & spending the $$$ on the L88 hood. Main reason was idle & off idle throttle response issues w/ the Torker. They said that w/ alot of tuning I may be able to work around that but made no promises. They said throttle response, torque, & overall performance would be much better w/ the RPM.
This advice was consistant w/ my experience w/ the Torker II that I ran on my smallblock for years- I never could get it to idle right. Either I had to set the idle too high or take the chance of it dying if it idled too long. I tried tuning the carb & playing w/ throttle blade openings but never could make the fix. In that case I went to a Weiand Stealth(dual plane very similar to the RPM) & the problems disappeared.
Thanks for the info Les. It looks like a new hood may be inevitable if I go this route. I've got to make up my mind and get this car back together before I go nuts.
By the way, nice 70 1/2 Z-28 in your photo gallery. I had a '70 1/2 in college and man, do I miss it. It had 3.73 gears, Muncie 4 speed. I had the LT I engine, but it was in pieces, as in twisted and ruined pieces though. Nice models with the Z too!
I ran a torker II for a while and it never ran right. Tried 3 different carbs and all would hesitate real bad when taking off from a stop. I sold one of the carbs to a friend with a dual plane intake and he didn't have any problems with it so it was the Torker II.
I have a old Holley street dominator single plane port matched ( which I think is a lot like a torq. II ) and it will idle at 700 w/ Ls6 cam / 3310 (removed choke tower and stagger jet ) Can take off in 4th gear if I wanted to . I can drive through school zone @ 20mph in high gear and drive right out. Pulls to 5600 w/ my combination.( 8.25 comp.)

I recently installed the old discontinued Street Dom. too - I milled the choke tower on my Q Jet and it fits under my BB hood!
LARS tuned it yesterday on his NoVa Tour and I can tell you that I could not be any happier with the performance of the combo.
These manifolds go for $75 on ebay and are rated from idle so are a much better choice than the Torker2 imo..

Edit: Question - why get rid of the Air Gap? You must already have a hood with more clearance if you have an air gap? Just curious
Actually I just came across a 454 with an Air Gap intake for sale. I recently had a stock small block in my '80 prior to removal. I have the stock hood.

Good luck on your car...and thanks. I'll bet you miss your Z28 but as they say, hindsight is 20-20. I almost sold mine during the first gas crisis way back when but am SO glad I didn't. I wish I could take some credit for those models but they were at the drags to do a photo shoot for a pro team & my wife snagged em right afterwards for a coupla pics. They asked if they could lean on my car & I told them they could do anything they wanted!
