Dep if you want a high revving 302 go for it, I have to admit, I knew a guy in high school with one in a 69 pace car and that was one of the sweetest sounding motors I've ever heard. But.... when you get it built come on down to Ga and I will chew it up and spit it out with my 383
Now that's funny!!

Hey Dep:

I'll trade ya a wash machine, dryer, and sewing machine for the vette.
Looks like the vette's days are numbered. She get more use out the above items then you'll be getting use out of the vette.

DJ Dep, I'm just curious why you wanted to pull out a BB to put in a small block?

If weight and handling were an issue you could save a lot of weight by using aluminum heads and an aluminum water pump, couldn't you?

I'm not trying to make trouble, just wonderin'

(For reference, my car is a '63 FI car and I do have the original motor so I don't have much choice but put it back together as such)

Originally, I was gonna go big block 427. Heck, I was eyeballing an aluminum block to build a ZL-1 clone. But my money trees failed to bloom, so I figured a race engine mouse would work. Still possible at a future date I will switch to a rat. Handling is not an issue (see my sig line). Weight IS less with a mouse, and weight is the easiest thing to remove to make you go faster.

I ran across country last night with a guy leading in a 73 with a VBP suspension front and back and a fresh 383 stroker motor. I was very very impressed with his combination. We were running at 100 mph most of the time, even in the curves and he handled really well and off the many many stop signs he really moved out.
It opened my eyes to the power that little stroker motor put out.

No way. You guys will lock me up and throw away the key.
Brain has the latest radar detecter in the nose but you seldom see a cop here. You can go for weeks and never see one. These are also secondary roads, not main expressways were the chances of getting caught are alot higher.
Actually having him run in front slows me down, which is good. I sometimes sit in the garage after a fast run and wonder why I do it?? It is the rush speed gives. I drove a race motorcyle for years and while building the house and putting in really long hours and exhausting myself I would get on the bike and head north at about 125 mph for an hour and come back refreshed and ready to work agian. It really bothered the wife, the speed but knew it refreshed me when I was really tired.
Must have one of my horseshoes up my butt

Just to veer off topic for a second...do the radar "scramblers" work at all? I see them advertised and now I hear them on the radio.

Those things called Phazer are just a big scam. I bought one for @$200 and we tested them against the K-band patrol cars here at work. They don't do anything. So if you can sell a bunch of them to enough suckers and if only 10 people send you speeding tickets that you promised to pay your still up on the game.

I tore it open and it doesn't take much a electronic genious to figure out that it doesn't have any "radio Frequency " parts in it.

Thanks George...I had a feeling it was pretty much a scam.

I don't know what Brian is running but driving past some secured buildings it beeps alot and driving past the cop shop always sets it off. He claims it works great and anytime it goes off he hits the off switch and slows down. Somewhere a cop is hiding. The only way they will catch him is with the manually operated guns that are left off until they point it at you and then it is too late.

There are very few radar decters in the police cars.

Norval, I've always bought the best "Detectors"

The so called blockers or countermeasures to make your car a stealth mobile is a whole nother subject.

The closest thing I’ve ever seen in a stealth car was a special thanks to the US air force.

Bunch of bright young guys with sticky fingers and a will to succeed. They had a hot rodded mid 60’s muscle car that needed a paint job anyway. Then you have your base police buddies that have access to radar guns. Then you have the buddies who work in the fighter plane paint shop that have access to the “Radar Refractive & Absorbent paints”

We took the time to unmount the tires and even paint the inside of the rims. Even behind the head lights and grill.

It was maybe 75% successful. In testing you would be much closer to the police car before he got a read out. It seems that these special paints are actually made to work best against certain wave lengths. The Air Force was not to concerned with ground radar cops with X & K band radars. By the time you were wondering why does the readout say 500 mph is when the laser guided bomb comes through your wind shield.

It's already going to be a hassle transporting the Vette without a steering column. Anyone ever steer a Vette on a trailer using a vice grips on the steering knuckle???

No insult intended and I did not say anything bad about your future wife. I am sure she is a very nice lady. If I insulted her integrety I am surely sorry and apoligize. But on the other hand I have seen you post far worse at the point of being insulting and implying people were stupid. So I'll tell you what I won't post on any thread you are involved with and please give me the same courtesy. And yes my 383 will spank your Imaginary 302's AZZ

I make it a point NOT to get personal with anyone on the forum. No personal references at all. I criticize WHAT people DO, not what people ARE. Apology not needed...I just wanted to make things clear

why criticize what people do?? its their car they can do whatever they please with it. you don't have to agree with them but everyone has there opinion and there way of doing things. if you do not have anything positive or constructive to say just dont say anything. I think everyone is getting a little tired of all this.

People ask for opinions or information and forum members, including me, provide it. If everyone agreed with everything everyone did, it would be a pretty dull and uninformative forum. BTW....are you the "everyone representative"?
You've been on the forum TWO MONTHS. That's not even long enough to form an opinion about what color fuzzy dice to buy.
Stick around...it gets...wellllll...it just gets
