shifter install/how do I rotate driveshaft need help, please :)
Well, I have almost everything back together, I'm having trouble with the bottom bolt that attaches the shifter to the bracket. I can't seem to get the wrench on it toget it tightend all the way any advice here would be great. Also, I have the transmission all hooked up, and went to try shifting, but the shifter wouldn't budge. I hope it's because that bottom bolt isn't quite tight allowing the shifter to move side to side a little. Also I tried to turn the driveshaft by rotating the wheels, but it acted like it was in gear, so I pushed in the clutch, and the wheel turned, but not the driveshaft. How do I rotate the driveshaft? 1976 L-82 with M-21.

Reason: added question
Sounds like the tranny is in gear when you think its in neutral. Make sure the cams are pointing pretty much straight up to insure its not in gear. Also, if you can spin a rear tire without the driveshaft moving, either someone stole your halfshaft or the gears out of your differential.
I see, on the rear end I did see that on either side of the differential, that I could see silver like they had slid away from the differential. Does this mean my rear end is totally
Perhaps you have the transmission locked in 2 gears at the same time. Check your linkage to transmission install. I know you can lock 2 gears at once, it's in the manual to disassemble the transmission.
It's easy to lock it in 2 gears at once, and easy to unlock it. I don't know if that's your problem though........ With the shifter disconnected you can flip the shifter forks so 2 gears can be "locked together" to help you loosen parts on the transmission. You just move both forks back to neutral when you're done.
Ok, I got the transmission in neutral, and got the bottom shifter bolt tight, now I'm tightening the top bolt for the shifter, and just when the bolt seems to start getting tight, I turn it a little more and it's loose again? How tight does it need to be? I'm worried about it falling out. Thanks, Pat
