diff cover replacement
The threads on my diff cover are stripped. It needs to be replaced. Why is it necesary to remove the halfshafts? Is it possible to just put a jack under the rearend & remove the crossmember & cover only?

Having just gone thru this, I would definately remove the entire unit. Much easier and faster. Just unbolt the halfshafts from the diff, they don't have to be removed entirely. I cut my exhausts just before the diff so I wouldn't have to remove them completely. I had an exhaust shop make two six inch couplers to reinstall them with exhaust clamps. Either way you choose to do it, just take your time and you will have a nice repair.
