Default Plug wires too short, am I missing something???

You'd think it should be easy to get a set of plug wires that fits the factory routing? I ordered a set from Mid America to avoid the usual parts store trouble with wires. Part number 622655D "70 - 74 wires. Spark Plug SB". They look great but they are half a foot to short to allow factory routing under the motor mount, along the oil pan and up through the two factory wire holders. The wire on #1 cylinder that came off is about 8 inches longer than any wire in the package I received.

Am I missing something??? I guess I'll call them tomorrow and see. I have all stock ignition, manifold and wire holdes ...

I'm no expert on your year, but usually, the wires do not run ALONG the oil pan. They go under the front motor mount....then down through the so called "V" or "boomerang" shields to the approximate center of the oil pan, then follow the "V" shield up to the supports in the back of the motor, then up to the distributor.

Could your previous wires have been run incorrectly? Are they a known brand, or were they custom made?

Hard to believe that MAD would be selling the wrong "stuff". Chuck

Yes, it was inprecise to say that they run "along" the oil pan. Just like you described there is one clip that brings them to the oil pan at one point. All the factory clips are there and if I want to make it through all of them, the wire is about half a foot too short.

My old wires look like they are a million years old and are not custom cut rather than a perfect fit. The #1 cable is about 50" long, while the replacement is only 41".

I studied the routing again carefully and am convinced that I am not taking any "detours".

Can someone measure their #1 cable? Maybe one that they have just taken off? Has anyone used the above new cables from Mid America?

I bought the Universal kit which just has the spark plug end connected and the other end is open so you can trim it to size...works for me.

Sorry...I should have included the URL with my post. Here ya go:

Jeg's

It comes with two types of distributor boots and connectors and a wire cutter and crimp tool. 8.5mm low resistance wires...should cut down on radio interference and power losses in the wires.

Now, you have your answer Don't know if MA is selling "the wrong stuff" or if your package was mislabeled, etc. Chuck
