Default Temp Gauge Not Working

I got a new sender from a Chevy dealer, put it in my intake (it's 1/2" and my new Dart heads only have 3/8" holes), found the wire that pegs the gauge needle when grounded, and hooked it up- nothing! Even after the motor gets plenty warm. I checked the ground from the base of the sender to the intake, and even jumpered it, no effect.

Any ideas? I have another (old) gauge I could try.

Where did you run the test? At the sending unit or at the gauge? If at the gauge, run the same test at the sending unit (short the terminal to ground) and see if the gauge pegs. If it doesn't start working your way back to the gauge.

No tape on the threads- I remembered reading that here. Plus I jumpered the base of the sender to the intake with a wire and it didn't help. The gauge test I did by grounding the connector on the end of the wire (that attaches to the sender) to the intake next to the sender. It pegged the gauge. Any other ideas?

Measure the resistance of the sensor. Sounds like it's bad!

What would be an acceptable resistance range for the sender?

Scratching my head on this. I think by now I would have run over to O'Reilly's or Autozone and spent $10-15 on an inexpensive Borg-Warner sender.
