Default Flywheel for 427

I'm swapping out a SB 406 with a 427 and can't use the flywheel. Any recommendations? Best weight, etc? Not interested in aluminum. This will be for the street only. What was stock...cast, steel? Tnx!

Also, is it best to leave the fuel pump and stock exhaust off for the install?

The light weight nodular Chevy flywheel is a good option. It uses a 10 1/2" clutch and weighs about half of the standard 427 or 350 cast iron items at about 16 pounds.

i have been running that flywheel in my 72' lt-1 since the mid 70's, and with 4.11 gears, it really makes a difference in the way the car accelerates.

14 lbs is pretty light. Aren't there any problems with that for street use, like smooth shifting? I would think for road racing the quick decel/accel would be a plus, but is it going to be tiring for just normal cruising?

shifting is smooth, its just starting from a dead stop smoothly. with the 4.11's, no problem, but i went to 3.73's and there is a little more finess required to start. i backed off the lifter setting on the intakes, decreasing the intake duration a few degrees, went to .025", and the leaving a stop sign/light is better. i don't drive the car all that much, so i can live with it the way it is.
