Default Windshield pillar weatherstrip replacement ?

Wanted to know if anybody has experience with replacing the weatherstripping at the windshield pillar on a 1980. It looks as though there is a metal piece that should also be replaced . Is that metal piece rivited or how is it attached ? Should I use the black or yelow glue ? Any advice appreciated . Brent

I used the black weatherstrip adhesive, and it worked well.

One of my metal brackets was gone already, and the aftermarket weatherstrip didn't fit under the metal piece that was there, so I took it off, and there seems to be no problem. The metal piece was rusted, so I couldn't tell for sure, but I think it was riveted. I ground it off.

The weatherstrip is held in with adhesive. You don't need to remove the metal retainer. I use black weatherstrip adhesive on non-NCRS jobs.

So if I removed the metal bracket from the pillar does it have to be replaced ? Should I order the brackets with the weatherstripping ? Brent

No, just put it back on, then glue the weatherstrip in.

If you can order them already installed to the pillar strip with the window 'blow out' clips attached, DO IT! Take my advice. Of all the weatherstrips to replace, those were the worst.
By the way, I used yellow 3-M adhesive.

I thought they were real easy to replace. They slide right in from the bottom and a small dab of black glue along with the screws keep it in.
