wiper door
).Inside the engine bay (on passenger side) - up against firewall - is the wiper door actuator.
Take the rubber grommet off the front of it.
Then with something that wont scratch the inside (we used the handle of a screwdriver) - push the actuator in until the door fully opens.

Mine is a 1970.
robably easier if you remove the vacuum hoses from the can first to not be fighting cylinder pressures.
You know...those booklets that nobody ever bothered to read when they were new and then threw away just before selling the car to the second owner who never even knew the thing existed?Anyway...
1. Disconnect the lines going to the canister.
2. Pull the big rubber plug out of the front end of the cannister.
3. Using a blunt instrument such as your finger or a socket extension, push the actuator in (toward the rear of the car).
4. The door should now be open.

If you don't remove the vacuum lines from the canister at least the closing side vacuum line, you may be trying to fight the vacuum on the "closing side" of the canister vacuum.
It opens like a dream if you remove the lines.
