a previous owner installed an Accel distributor in my '74 vette and it's worn out so I bought a "stock" dizzy from Advanced Auto Parts along with a new cap and rotor button. i installed everything like the old one making sure the wires are in the right order but it won't fire, i think the timing got thrown off so much in the swap that it won't fire. how would i go about getting the timing close enough so it'll start up? and another thing, the old dizzy had the driveline for the tach on it but the new dizzy doesn't have anywhere for it to plug in, was that where the tach drive originally went?
Pull #1 plug bump over till you fill air forceing out , timimg mark should be at 8-12 degrees BTDC align rotor button pointing toward #1 plug wire this will get you in the ball park . If you had a cable hooked to the accel dist that was for the tach drive.

with setting the initial timiing and then put a timing light on to fine tune. As far as the mechanical tach drive, I'm thinking you're between a rock and a hard place. Let's hope some of our other Forum Brothers and Sisters can come up with some alternative. Basically, I'm thinking your scr@##d.
how else can i rig up the tach drive if there's nowhere on the distributor for it?
You really only have a couple of options.. Get an electric tach and mount it on the dash or column, or convert your in dash tach to electric.
There is a forum member who sells tach drive distributors for around 200 bux.. that's a steal..
User 'Jackson' Posted this; If you want to retain your original mechanical tach but also want HEI ... please reference my ad in C3 parts http://forums.corvetteforum.com/sho...852&forum_id=57

I am forum member "Jackson" ... and still have brand new tach drive HEI dist. Purchase price $200 USD. I'm nearly sold out and will not restock ... about a dozen CAC & CF members got em from me. In their infinite wisdom, this forum's administration took down my tach drive HEI thread that Oldschool's shows link ... thread is gone & so link no good. Email me at QAferret@aol.com
