They are made for use with 8 inch rims. The side wall has a big buldged out side wall. All the circle track guys use 8 inch wide. A 10 inch wide is probally better though.

Default Get Twin Pin J56s For serious duty

The Delco stainless steel lined castings machined to match the original J-56 twin pin calipers. The General knew what he was doing. OEM pistons with correct phenolic second-design insulators are what you need. These insulators were designed to help prevent brake fluid boiling under extreme conditions. These are normally adequate for road racing applications, but if you need even better thermal insulators, go with the titanium. Not cheap just good!

These are what I have. You can buy them with the new calipers.

I'll try and get a picture but it won't be very good.

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on these shocks.

http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=4.190.1689

No they're not Bilsteins. I don't necessarily want the best shock, i want the firmest shock i can find for a reasonable price. These are only $50 each and are adjustable from soft to racing hard. They might only last a few years and thats ok.

I can crank them back down when on the street.

Looks like the best deal. I think these are going in the C3 receipe.

Koni Classic adjustables, and stock-type brake calipers (with O-rings these days) with Hawk HP+ pads.

the konis are about 400$ for a complete set, however...when you buy them they will last a lifetime. You'll probably never have to buy another set of shocks again.

I got my RCSI shocks today.

Playing with them it seems the adjustment has a far greater effect on rebound dampening than compression. I can't tell if the 9 position adjustment even changes the compression dampening.

On the stiffest settng i can barely pull the rod out of the shock body, but then again, i'm kind of a wienie.

Yep, these bad boys are stiff. My old KYBs hardly offer any resistance in either direction. Totally shot. I've been running road courses with effectively NO SHOCKS.

Looks like i should pick up some speed with these.

Groovy, I will be interested to see how shock tuning will help your handling. With your greater turn-in response from your new tires I bet the shocks will make a noticeable difference. When are you at the track again? I still haven't performed all of my fixes but the engine doesn't seem to be blowing smoke anymore. If I get things set there is a track day on Thurs the 25th. I'm aiming to make that.

Heres some fuel for the fire. This is what an old book recomends. It's kind of small though. Hold on a minute while I upload it. I used google and found tiny pic and uploaded it through there.

Its hard to believe that combo would work that well. If that's the case we're all running too much spring on back.

Thats a nice looking car.

From your pics it doesn't look the rear rolls that much. Also in this book it says that with this spring it will still have mild oversteer. I think this set up will work though. It should help keep the tires planted around bumpy corners and keep traction. I want to buy those guldstrand end links also that will fit a 3/4 inch sway bar that I picked up at a swap meet. I can try it without those links to save some money on the initial cost and if I like it I will buy those links. It should cost no more than 250 for everything. Im also thinking about 750# front springs instead of the 850# recomended becuase I have a small block.

Default turtle vette

I have been running Auto cross events for too many years. I was a Regional Champ in 76,77,78. Taught drivers school for several years. Today I run my 79 vett a few times a year. If I were you i would look into joining the local B.M.W. club in your area. You do not have to own a BMW to join and all the B.M.W. clubs run several autocross events a year and several High Speed Track events.
This past sunday the Windy City B.M.W. club had the 1st autocross. We had close to 90 cars sign up. Many Corvettes, some Vipers, Lotus, GTO, WRX, etc.
We had a high speed event at Elkhart Lake in early May. Over 200 cars.
High speed are broken down to drivers ability. You would not be allowed to run race tires as a novice at any track event.
At Elkhart my younger son ran his 318ti and it was fun watching him pass much faster cars running down the hurry down section of the track and then seeing him getting passed on the straight away by the same cars that made his look like it was in reverse.
You could also look into N.C.C.C. for events but they have so many rules you might over build your car(like me) and will not allow you to run. They do not run any track events either. I am a current officier in Northern Rays Corvette Club and a founding member.

I have never seen anybody rejected from running an NCCC event because their car was overbuilt for the rules. Yes, there are some crazy rules, just like any other organization.

Also not true, NCCC runs many track events around the country. They don't usually include any practice sessions, however in the Michigan area our high speed track events also include test and tune open lapping sessions.
