Remanufactured engine ID

Remanufactured engine ID
I have a 69 with what I was told is an engine from a 73 Z28. The remanufactured number off of the metal plate is "216976" Any ideas on how to trace this number to find out the engine specs, HP, ect.?

I've never seen a "remanufactured" number like the one you list. My advice would be to attempt to contact the folks who rebuilt the engine in the hope your number would be in their records. Good Luck.

The GM replacement engines were "Service Replacement" engines and were identified by an "SR" code. If the engine has been rebuilt by someone, the ID tag is probably showing the shop's work order number - a common practice. You have to find the shop who did the work to track down any info. The number does not mean anything to anyone else.

Thanks for your imput! Car is from the western Maryland West Virginia area and tag also has the # 1227 in the bottom left hand corner of the metal ID tag which is 2" x1-1/2" and is painted red on bottom and top 1/3 of tag. If any one else has seen anything like this or perhaps a shop that uses this type of ID I can use the help......Thanks
