Default CAM SWAP Difficulty and results

Guys, I have decided to take some advice of a senior member and change my stock Cam and lifters in my 72/ LS5 to a CRANE 134241 was the suggestion and lifters also change my springs, locks, and seats. What do you guys think.

Is your motor stock? That's a lot of cam for stock compression. With stock compression this cam is going to be all top end and no bottom. Your car is going to be slow out of the hole.

You realize that you can't have it all, don't you?

If you are really interested in grunt off the line, then I'd be looking at something closer to this: http://www.cranecams.com/?show=brows...tType=camshaft

But (and there's always a but), Comp Cams has some of the better off-the-shelf street grinds and based upon their relatively narrow lobe separation angles, so you'll make more off-idle and midrange than you would with a similar duration Crane cam. Crane's are really great cams but you have to understand the cam card a bit better than the average bear to get the most out of a selection.

I don't know about this. I have more cam in my small block and I don't have a low end problem. Here's my cam

Look at the dyno sheets on my webpage for ideas. Headers will give you much bigger power gains than a cam.

If this were my car I would definitely do headers and cylinder head porting first (as zwede pointed out), then get a Crane blueprint muscle car camshaft (Jegs #270-969391). This is the original profile in the '70 LS5. This is as wild as I would go with stock LS4 compression.

THE CAMSHAFT MUST BE MATCHED TO THE COMPRESSION RATIO OF THE ENGINE.

Sorry for shouting but we have already seen the grief that parts mismatch can bring.

Remember, if you overcam this engine it will be a chore to drive not a joy.
