I am running a fresh 383 with Edlebrock 750 carb, performer rpm intake headers 2.5" exhaust, Comp Cams 280H.......etc. Stock distributor. Should I consider running an MSD 6a or 6al or what? What would the benefit be, if any, and what are any drawbacks? Might consider a shot of N2O in the future just for fun..........opinions on the MSD?
I have a 6AL, Pro-Billet dist, and a Blaster HVC coil on my 383. It runs like a bear, starts right up, and loves when I lay into the throttle. If your thinking of N20 in the future, MDS makes special units especially for use with the funny stuff. I know for sure the Digital SCI+ has a retard stage to prevent detonation when you hit the button.
WOW! They have gone up in price. My HI6 was about 150 bucks a few years ago. It is for engines up to 12 to 1 and has a built in rev limiter. They now make one for 10.1 to 14.1 motors and turbos superchargers and Nitrous. Little more expensive but they work great. MIne is fired by the stock dist using a set of heavy duty points to trigger it. Works very well to 7000+ rpm.
I replaced an old mallory dual point with a MSD Probillet dist. 6A Box and 8.5mm superconductor wires in My 69 sb.
I was able to set it all up in a few hours, It fired right up ,the engine has run very strong and efficient for the last four years
The Engine has never stuttered once while running.
Excellent ignition.

im using the new msd pro billet e- curve distributor. it has no springs or weights, and i can set my advance curves with a screwdriver, on the printed circuit board inside. it also has a built in rev limiter, and can be used with or without the 6al box. its one of the nicest units ive ever worked with. havent heard others here mention it yet.
