I need some help here. My alternator was going bad so I bought a new one thinking that would fix the problem, jumped the car drove for about an hour to charge the battery. That didn't work. Got another jump went to sears to take the battery in to see what they say. They charged the battery for me saying it was good, threw it in my car and started right up, drove to a friends house two hours later car started no problem and I went home. Woke up this morning went to my car......won't start, radio wont even come on. Now this leads me to believe its a connection problem either a bad wire or something. On the altenator there are three connection one's the obvious battery connection but I'm lost on the other two cause they are right next to each other and don't know which wire go to which connection.
How old is the battery? If the battery can't hold the charge then the battery is toast. Charge the battery and disconnect overnight. Reconnect, does it start? If no then battery has an internal short, get a new one. If it starts then there is something electrical draining the battery over night. I've seen bad alternators toast new batteries also. I have a rule, I replace both Alternator and battery and the same time if one of them fails. I don't expect batteries to last more than a few years regardless if they are the 36 month or the 72 month.
There is a way to check for circuits that could be causing the drain but I'd have to look it up. It involves pulling one battery cable, a test light and pulling fuses one by one.
The battery is only a couple of months old and the altenator is new. Once I get the battery charged again I'll try charging the battery and disconnect overnight and see if it starts thanks for the tip Milo. But I still believe my connections are need of replacement.

A one hour charge on a battery, followed by a short drive, is insufficient to fully charge a battery. It should be on a trickle charger for at least six hours or until the meter begins to shows a negligible charge.
had same problem; disconected negetive terminal on battery used test light on terminal and post. if light is on you have a draw somewhere.mine ended being a bad relay switch in console
