manifold studs
i'm trying to remove my old studs from my exhaust mani. on my 71BB, short of cutting them flush and drilling them out, is there another avenue i might try first... i already did the double nut routine and vise grips, of which neither one budged em...any suggestions...i did soak them first in rust break... thanks

I assume you are talking about where the exhaust bolts to the manifold and not the manifold to the engine. Put the torch to them, maybe have to do this a couple of times. If you do have to drill them use left handed bits, start with about a 1/8" hole all the way through then try the heat again. Alot of times the small hole and heat will let the stud have room to expand then contract away from the threads. Using the left hand bit will also give you a shot at it loosening while you drill and backing out. The couple of bucks for the left hand drill bits is well worth it-ask me how I know.

This is gonna sound stupid but....a friend said to me heat them a bit then rub candle wax...yes candle wax on em...Wow! it worked maybe cause I spent a day making them loose but hey what the heck they are out now.
