Default Clunk Sound When Braking..

When I Apply The Brakes, I Hear A Clunking Noise In The Drivers Side Front End. It Feels Like Something Is Slipping/moving. Any Ideas? 80 L48

Loose caliper or a bad ball joint.

Could be just an empty ball joint .... no grease. I have one that has a bad habit of loosing its grease quicker than the other three, even though all the boots look to be in good shape. It probably isn't making a good seal. I can always tell when its getting low, makes a definite "thunk" sound when I brake ..... spindle moving back and forward in the pocket.

Don't forget to check the caliper mounting bolts. I would consider it very rare, but I've seen a bolt get loose and fall completely out. The guy was able to drive the car 20 miles home before he could diagnose the problem.

Usually caused by a worn out upper or lower a-arm bushing. Check all 8 bushings and see if one is missing or worn out.

Bingo! Lars is correct, the most common cause of this problem is the upper and/or lower control arm bushings are worn out!

After checking this, then I would check the ball Joints, then the caliper bolts and then the pads.

But all the above answers are good ideas to check. But the most common problem of this is the bushings in the control arm.
