Default Hot rearend

Had a noise coming from the rear and noticed extreme heat generated from the drivers side wheel. Checked the diff and half shaft and tracked the heat build up to the area of the spindle/rotor. Pulled the tire and the rotor. Could of been the parking brake because the rotor did not come off easy. Do I need to remove the ta (heard how difficult it can be) or just try and get the spindle off.
I plan to replace the spindle and bearings and parking brake and rotors. Would it make sense to replace both spindles at once??

Thanks for your input

what are you trying to do? if the rotor was hard coming off sounds like the parking shoes were sticking.....try lubing the "control lever arm" that connects to the parking brake cable.....its really hard to see because the rotor is in the way.....it may be that the parking brake is not releasing because the internal mechanism for expanding the parking brakes is getting rusty..

Default Wheel bearings

I just removed my spindles from my '77 without taking the ta bars off. I used a slide hammer bolted to the lug studs and after taking the nut off the inside they came right off. Van Steel has instructions on how to remove the bearings etc. Mine has loose bearings and I just need to reduce the shim to tighten my back up and then just bolt it back together. Now if I can find the shims in Kansas City I can be back on the road tomorrow!! If you are going to replace the bearings and races you would have more luck taking the whole bearing carrier off the ta bars and doing it on the bench. Working UNDER the car is tough.

Bearing could be getting hot too. You may need to rebuild the bearing assembly.
