Default Motive Pressure Bleeder question

I just received a Motive unit today and the instructions are a little less than I had hoped.
I would have thought that the line to the adapter would have to be primed full of fluid before one starts or would you not be pushing that volume of air thru the brake system?

Any other tips on using the pressure bleeder?

No priming of the line between the big jug reservoir and the M/C is required. Just pour a quart or two of FRESH brake fluid in to the jug, make sure the adaaptor plate is secured to the M/C and pump up the jug. Then just go to each caliper attach the bleeder hose to the bleeder and put the other end of the hose in a clean jar and open the bleeder screw. The fluid should then start to purge out of the caliper. A few sharp raps with a hammer to the caliper during the bleeding will help to remove any air bubbles in the caliper.
When the fluid comes out clean, you're done with that bleeder/caliper and go on to the next.

Their system just doesn't get any easier than that.

When you're done, release the pressure in the jug, remove the adapter plate on the M/C, clean the jug and lines with alcohol and store until next year.

Before you start you might want to have a few wing nuts handy... I had issues with the contraption they provide to provide vacuum on your master cylinder. I needed to go get some wing nuts to really tighten it down so it wouldn't leak anymore.
Other than that, I'd say it was worth every penny! Good overall product.
My 2 cents.

I never use the J bolts and wing nuts. I use a C clamp to hold the plate on and it works great. The only other issue was the crimped connector on the hose wasn't too good, I replaced it with a ideal hose clamp.

So when I use the Motive Bleeder, don't I have to do either the fronts or the back calipers and then switch the plate around since the fitting is to one side? Or does the single fitting pressurize both sides of the M/C at the same time even if it is only over the front or back reservoir on the M/C?

Me too, but 2 C clamps. Also, pump it up empty to make sure it holds pressure before adding the brake fluid. Avoids the mess caused by a bad seal. No need to turn the fitting around for front or rears, both sides of the master will be pressureized.
Tip. When done bleeding, turn the tank on its side so the hose inside the tank is out of the fluid and open the drivers side bleeder again. Watch the "air gap" in the clear hose as it goes to the master, give it a few seconds after the gap gets to the master and close the bleeder. Helps prevent overfilling and spillage.
When you're done bleeding, release the pressure at the tank!, not at the adaptor plate.

OK. I'll try the C-clamp method. I had trouble in the past getting it to seal. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one.

I start with the rear system and center the plate hole on that chamber. I clamp it right on the center web of the M/C. Yes you do have to rotate the plate for each chamber. I just crack the jar cover when done to release the system pressure and not have a spill. I also use a glass jar of clean fluid and a clear tubing to watch the old fluid come out and to look for air bubbles in the stream.

You'll get the hang of it once you get to it. Just don't spill any fluid on the paint!

My adapter has 2 holes, one for each master compartment. Covers the whole top of the master cylinder. No need to move it around. Think Motive calls it an "early American car" plate.

I have that one, too.
I use the ratcheting bar clamps or "quick clamps" (available at Home Depot) to hold the adapter onto the master cyl.........in addition to the J-hooks, this makes a good seal.

Default My luck

Well after fighting the unit for 2 hours using jhooks, clamps, etc etc...it still will not hold pressure.
I call Motive and they say do a simple test...plug the holes in the adapter with my fingers and pump it up and see if the pressure holds.
Nope!
Bad unit....new one on the away.
