i used to be into the lowered truck crowd and the kits of which you speak are common in that aftermarket. never saw any for vettes though. and they are going for large $$ 600-700 large but im sure somewhere, by now there has to be something better/cheaper available

You can get "blue" bulbs for most cars. Look on ebay for thta kind of stuff but the true "blue" look is HID headlights. For those type HID into google and pull up some of the copmanies that sell them. Also call those companies because there may be something that will work but that isnt listed. Good luck.

Default HID Lights

Be careful before you install HID lighting. Last year at SEMA, ALL HID lights were pulled from display, because of Federal Motor Law problems. I have not heard any reports this year. Numerous foreign cars have them that are direct imports to the US, so I don't see a problem with the lights themselves. They are brighter, have a wider beam, and longer range into the dark. Polititians must be involved somewhere.

5000K HID HEADLIGHT CONVERSION: G-Garage introduces the next generation of high-intensity discharge (HID) headlight conversion. The McCulloch HID System conversion system has many new and upgraded features that can revolutionize the current HID market. Basically, an HID lights allows you to see a wider and longer stretch of road, so you can detect dangerous obstacles sooner and more easily. The HID is commonly used in racing applications because of the long range visibility it offers the driver. The McCulloch HID system uses less electricity than standard halogen bulbs, too, which makes the life expectancy of the HID bulb up to 10 times longer than the factory halogen bulb.

i was looking at this, as i was considering HIDs or projectors for my 75. there are a few options ive seen on the internet.. i havent had the chance to measure our bulbs, so im not SURE, but i know they're h5006. these kits are conversions to a HOUSING like ours, but with a replacable ulb itself (h4) in most cases.

and then, in the spot for the H4s, you could do this...

I have done quite a bit of research on this subject and I can tell you these things:

1. Blue bulbs. are just that, bulbs with blue tint (or purple) on the glass. They ALL actually have a lower lumen output than any high quality xenon gas filled clear glass bulb. Your eyes only percieve them to be brighter because of the whiter (actually blue) light. And yes this includes PIAA's and Sylvania Silverstars.

2. HID Lighting. HID or High Intensity Discharge does not have a traditional filament like a traditonal halogen sealed beam lamp does. It actually uses high voltage to strike an arc inside of a xenon gas filled bulb and this is what produces the very intense and very "white" light (usually around 5000K.)

There is no doubt that true HID is the best that money can buy right now. I have a conversion kit on my 01' Tahoe. BUT, they are very pricey and, yes, for the moment they are not legal in the US.

My recommendation? Unless you vette is a daily driver, and unless you are willing to pay for a ticket for having illegal lighting on your car, I would just invest in a set of "H4" housings such as those made by Valeo or Cibie. There are not many parts houses in the US that carry them, but they are about the best. As for bulbs I would recommend the Narva Rangepower +50, or the OSRAM Silverstars. Notice I said [B]OSRAM not Sylvania[/B, they are different bulbs. Again, there are not many places in the US that carry these bulbs but they are the best.

A good set of Cibies lamps that are aimed properly will provide you with the next best thing to HID's without the hassle of special wiring, or the fear of getting "held down by the man" for having illegal lights.

Let me know if you need a source for the H4 bulbs or housings. I can direct you to the place where I got mine.

Also I forgot to mention, watch out for "overwattage" bulbs like the ones that JC Whit... sells. They can melt your housings (if they are plastic) and your wires!

A long time ago a friend of mine changed the headlights in his Saab from single sealed beams to Cibie halogens, and the difference in lighting was impressive. The Cibie lenses focus the light into very well defined patterns. I would think that a 4 headlight setup would be more than adequate for the C3.
