Just changed out my Pertronix unit for the second and last time. First unit lasted about a year, then was replaced on warrantee. Second unit lasted 1 1/2 to 2 years then kaput. Running points now.
Any suggestions for points conversion? 69 bb 5800 rpm max.

I am running a Crane HI6 ignition box. I am using a set of heavy duty points to trigger the ignition box. Mine runs to 7000 rpm and never has missed a beat. Also has a rev limiter which I have used many times. Mine has been in the car for 6 years now. Stock recurved distributer.

Just looking for somthing to replace the points and keep the stock look. The pertronix actually worked well, but is not reliable. The guy running the dyno about 6 months ago said the spark was very strong. Said they sell alot of them. I already had one installed, so he wasn't trying to sell me anything. I think the heat kills these things. I can fry eggs on everything under my hood. So, looking for a, in the distributor, points replacement. Thanks for the help.

I run points in all my cars and just check the dwell once a year.... We ran points in our NHRA Record holder Super Stock car and just backed it up with an MSD and a good coil... tough to beat. Skip the conversion and use a good set of points like the NAPA/Echlin CS786. Supplement with an MSD if you want a slight upgrade.

Lars, thanks for the insite. I think I will stick with the points. Any advantage to get a high voltage or low resistance coil? I assume the ballast resistor should also be kept? Thanks again.

Me too. I run that setup on my DZ 302. Realy smooths out the idle. Maybe too much if you know what I mean. Runs up to 7000 RPM with the high RPM NAPA Echlin Points and a stock coil. No problems at all. Rev limiter adjusts with a screwdriver too. It looks stock because the "box" is mounted under the dash out of sight.
