Default Plug heat range

Is there any need to switch to a different heat range plug when it gets cold outside? My 74 with stock L48 is getting harder to start since it has gotten cold. I fouled the plugs pretty good one day and was planning on replacing them, not even sure what it has in it right now. Just wondering what would be a good plug to run in her.

No reason to change heat range between summer and winter. Your plug fouling is more likely due to a badly adjusted choke (closed too much drowning the engine).

Also, do you give it a good pump or two on the gas before starting?

The technique i have always use was a pump and a half turn the key and she used to fire right up. Since its been getting colder it has been taking much longer. My idle spped with the choke on has also gone up to like 1500 rpm.

You may need 2 or even 3 pumps when it's really cold. Experiment and see what works best. If it feels like it has a hard time getting air after it starts, try adjusting the choke to open more.
