I have just about finished my frame restoration and getting close to putting the body back on. I will be using the strap harness to lower the body back-on. It is a 71 vert with the hard-top installed. I have removed the seats, carpet, etc.
I have installed the engine, tranny, diff, fuel/brake lines, Should I install the gas tank on the frame before or after I install the body ?
How difficult is it to manuever around the tank with it installed on the frame ?
Any other help tips from those who have done frame-off retros will be helpful.
Go ahead and set the tank in and leave the straps loose, so you can center the tank after you get the body bolted down. Don't forget the boot and drain tube. Leave the rear valance panel off. The mufflers will be very close, so I would leave them off 'till later.
The only problem I had leaving the gas tank on while reinstalling the body was garage height. The tanks sits up pretty high. Be sure your lift system will go up high enough to clear the tank. Had to take my wheels off and place the hubs on those caster dolly thingys. Give me just enough head room. Good luck.
