read an article in corvettefaq about plugs that suggested cutting the end off so that the spark travels straight down the cylinder as opposed to out the side... better performance and efficiency...anyone done this and do you notice a difference
ok, thats the article i read. now anyone tried it and is there a noticable difference... only put about 500 mi. a year on my car so having to change plugs is no big deal.. how long would side gap plugs last in a street driven car
I would advise against doing this to plugs with a copper-cored ground electrode/
As was pointed out, the plug life is going to be shortened significantly because all the erosion will be concentrated at one place on the center electrode and ground wire.
Frankly I'm not convinced that this will yield any discernable performance improvement. Does anyone have any data to prove me wrong?
this is an old nitrous trick, to try to cut back on the glowing electrode in the combustion chamber, that causes detonation. bad thing in a nitrous engine. ive done it in my engine just for fun, dont notice any difference. its kinda like indexing your plugs. it sounds really cool, but the gains are minimal at best.
