LIke fastguy said you can build a ls1 on a budget with tons of used parts or brand new take off parts out there,im doing it right now,i even bought a brand new block for 450.00 for my start.I almost have everything to assemble it except for 3 more parts and ill have under $900 into the total motor.
Pat, your the man. Glad to see you getting through the project on budget.
Buddy
Most C5 guys that do heads/cam are practucally giving away their stock stuff. If anyone is interested I have stock heads, VC's and cam for $100. I just sold the intake and exhaust manifolds on ebay for less than $60.
wish i wouldve known,it wouldve saved me some time searching, just got brand new valve covers on ebay never run with oil cap and bolts and gaskets shipped for $40.00
Hey buddy im hopeing after christmas to have it in and ready to wire up.
Make sure they are the right ones. Early LS1's use a perimeter VC, late models are center bolt. I ended up using 6.0L truck VC's on my C5 when I swapped heads.
Pat, Some of the guys on LS1tech make a simple L bracket to relocate the coils to the back of the head. Then they run traditional spark plug wires. The motor then looks like an old school V8. No need for coil cover to hide the ugly coils and you can paint the VC blue.
i might do that later on, i pretty much got everything on top of the motor, fuel rail covers etc... just want to get it fired up first then ill modify from there.my bearings, front cover and few other items showed up tonight, just need waterpump and flexplate.
Jeff will do,been looking found a few on ls1tech but too many miles, buddy havent decided yet,ive been looking locally for a 4l60e but no luck yet,if not ill use the 700 for now then swap later on.
Has anyone found a straight water thermostat housing cover yet? I have a parts guy I deal with at a local Chevrolet dealership checking if any other Chevrolet engines share the same dimensions. The truck V8's all angle out to the side. If I can't find any, I will cut and TIG.

Dan after our discussion the other day i did some searching,i couldnt find any truck that uses a straight thermostat, but i did find one other one besides street and performance but its costly also.Cheapest way out is cut and tig it seems.
yes im going to spray it maybe a 100 shot this time,i found waterpumps on ebay for 149 rebuilt,so at 50000 yours is making noise, maybe i can find a new take off,i bought some new take off stuff from katech this week and everything was brand new maybe ill contact them and see how much.Hey buddy and dan,i know someone that has a v series caddy, while im at work ill try and get ahold of him and lift the hood and look at thermostat housing.
If you guys are looking for take offs, contact some of the supporting tuners. These guys routinely take low mile parts off of customer cars and get rid of them.
Did Matt ever figure out where his came from? We ruled out a Trailblazer. How about Caddies, has anyone pull the thermo from the V series?
Nope, but that one from CSR looks slick. I may order one just to get rid of the unknown housing that I have on my car. I never really liked the idea of the integrated housing and thermostat.
I know that they changed the waterpump for '04 in the Corvettes. The CTSv may have that same WP.
The guys on LS1tech were saying it uses a standard SBC thermostat. That would be cool. I may have to get one, too, just to get rid of my welded one (blue of course).
