The Z06 cam is still pretty small. If yoy get it for free, I might use it but otherwise there are lots of decent options out there. Most people seem to start where I did (Thunder Racing 224 or one of the many equivalent cams). With the Z06 cam you should be able to get away with the stock tuning without issue. Anything bigger and you'll want to at least play with the VE table to get it to idle better.
Stock injectors should be fine until you get around 400rwhp.
Buddy,
I'm away off from getting a cam installed. With the Z06 Cam lift being over 1/2" will the valve springs need to be replaced? Like Pat, I will first make sure the engine is in working order before installing cam.Talking with you guy about this project is motivating me to get going. I plan on doing a lot of autocrossing and low speed road racing with this vette. I hope to get the frame powder coated within a month. My budget is getting hammered thanks to Christmas. Did I ever tell you kids are expensive!
Jeff, We never did get to racing each other before I sold the '76 LT1 vette, I hope we can get together this time. The last year I own the 76/LT1 vette I beat a ZR1 in the 1/4 mile. I was feeling pretty good about it until I found out he left his trackion control on. Oh well, a wins a win!!!!

You will need to upgrade the springs. If you don't go any bigger than the LS6 cam, you can use 02+ LS6 valve springs (the yellow ones). I picked up a set from LS1tech for $50 shipped. If you ever want to go bigger, which you probably will, go with Comp 918's. They are cheap and good for just about any cam you would want under .600 lift.

That was my plan, too. Well its been three and a half years and I still have the stock cam. It's hard to get motivated to take a good running engine apart.
Pat, Some of the guys on LS1tech make a simple L bracket to relocate the coils to the back of the head. Then they run traditional spark plug wires. The motor then looks like an old school V8. No need for coil cover to hide the ugly coils and you can paint the VC blue.
If you are using 97-98 heads, the VC's have the posts cast into them for the coils to bolt to, no bracket needed, and it makes it easy to take them off as one poice.
