I will be doing my window frame shortly, is there ant type of blanket or other device that I could use to protect the fiberglass from the welding heat?

At work we use them for other reasons but you can get them from AGO industries for a reasonable price- around $75 for a 3' x 6' blanket( not the best but not the cheapest ones). They are good blankets-- I put a propane torch to one , it burnt but would not light on fire.
I got the Harbor Freight welding blanket. Works good. I also use a spray bottle of water to wet down the area nearest the welding to be done. Makes the blanket last longer.

When I did my window frame I figured some towels in the car and a plastic canvas would do just fine. Well, it wasn't. Let me tell you, 3 ft tall flames coming out of your car does get ones attention! Amazingly only the towels and the shifter **** were ruined. Leather seats, carpet etc was fine.
I then got a cheapie welding blanket from harbour for $20. Made in Russia (not kidding you). It would burn until I misted it with some water. As long as I kept it misted it worked OK. Won't mistake the cheapie for a real welding blanket though.
