Default front backspacing

What is the maximum backspacing allowance for a 1968 vette, front? I am going to order wheels and I was wondering if 4.25" back spacing is feasible.

4.25" should be fine, I have 4.5" with no problems on my '70! Factory backspacing is 4".

What size wheels and tires are you using? Any spacers?

9.5" in front and 12" in rear (no wheel spacers) 17" wheels all around.

Where did you find those size wheels with that backspacing? I run 17 x 9 .5 on the rear and the most BS I could get was 5".

The backspacing in the rear is going to be 4.5". The wheels are being custom made. They cannot be bought off of the shelf.

Grutzy how are you going to fit 12" wide rims in the back without them sticking out past the body? Do you have flared fenders? Id like to go with the 9.5 in the front but was told by most here they will rub. When will you have your rims to test fit? Id really like to know if the 9.5 will go on the front with the 4.5 bs. I can deal with any soft stuff it rubs on with some slight mods but if its hitting the frame or any suspension components Id rather go down in width.

ZL1 flares are on all 4 corners. I am going for 4.25" back spacing in the front, not 4.5". There is a road racer on this forum who uses 10" wheels in the front.

I wanted to go with the flares but cant see myself getting to it any time soon so am going to go with 18x10 rear and 17x8 front.
