Default Sticky Wheels

I have a vibration in the front wheels at about 55. Had them rebalanced, but no improvement. I noticed that the wheels do not rotate freely. The bearings seem ok, and the nut is nut overtighted. It seems like it might be a brake problem, but I'm not sure where to look first. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you actually removed the bearings, clean, inspected for damage, and repacked them?

if the nut is overtightened the bearing are your cause. take them out, repack or replace and install them properly and you problem will go away.

Default Sticky wheels still

Thanks guys...I did all of the above, cleaned repacked, etc., and the wheels moved freely again.
Took her out for a test drive, and the symptoms returned. I jacked the car up, and the wheels were dragging again.
It seems like the calipers might be dragging...they show no signs of leaks, and the car does not pull while braking. What are the chances that both front wheels would go at the same time?
Sure would like to get this squared away...Any suggestions?

Are your rubber flex lines to the brake calipers still original? I've heard of cases when, if old enough, they will not relieve pressure after braking causing the brakes to stick. I'm not sure how this would relate to a wheel vibration though.

Goinbroke,

I read that in my restoration manual, but it didn't seem like it would cause that much resistance. I guess that would be a cheap enough place to start. I'm thinking the vibration is like when ABS brakes vibrate during braking.

Thanks for your imput

The brakes would slow the car or prevent it from going as fast, moving etc. unless the brakes are pulsating you would get vibration similar to ABS. Sounds like a suspension problem.

I have a Porsche with similar symptoms. I think the calipers aren't releasing completely and causes the rotor to heat up. When one of the rotors gets hot it warps enough to cause a pulsing.

I've had the brake hose issue on other vehicles and it usually happens on one wheel causing some strange symptoms. The vehicle pulls to the side opposite the restricted hose when the brakes are applied and then pulls the other direction when the brakes are released. The restricted hose keeps the caliper from applying the same pressure as the free side so the vehicle pulls toward the free side. Then, when you release the brakes the restricted hose won't let the caliper release so it pulls to the restricted side. If the brake hoses are original that is a good place to start.

when it comes to the flexlines, they can look just fine by visual inspection. spend the $$ and eliminate that possibility.
