Default Quadrajet Choke Project

Take off the air cleaner and here is the Choke mechanism disconnected..
Now I have images I have taken with a digital camera which show the choke but I guess I cannot post them.. So I can e-mail these pics to anyone interested in the project . I cannot talk inteligently about these du dads because I dont know what they are nor their function. But they are dis connected.. Now I started the engine this morning after fixing my ignition key problems THANKS TO ALL YOU GUYS and observed the little flapper do hickey in the primaries and thru its associated linkage it slowly opened up as the engine warmed up so that little spring thing must be ok. A short hose running from the carb to a white disc like do dad is disconnected and the hose plugged??? Torwards the fire wall is another thing that has 2 hose connections on it and no hoses ??? anyway the pics would help a lot..
How can I get upgraded to upload pics? or is this possible...??
Anyway hope to hear from all you experts.. and thanks agin for the ignition key help and Merry Xmas everyone!!!
While I was under the vette this morning I found these numbers on the trans 981709WT and these numbers on the engine block 010 020 147
Anyone know what these mean????

Default Yes you can post pictures...

To post pictures just use:

www.photobucket.com

It's free!!

You can upload pictures there and then link to them in your posts.

On photobucket copy the IMG link and paste it into your post here.

It will look like this but show a picture instead:

Here is one that works:

OK...from your remarks...the choke is working fine and it seems that your car is running fine...is this the case?? The plugged hose is keeping the vacuum shut down on that hose as an open vacuum will typically make the engine run rough...have you tried plugging that plugged hose onto the white disc and starting the car and see what happens? also, put a tube on that disc and suck on the tube, if you draw air, the disc has a leak, hence the plugged tube...then I have questions about the #2 pic, curious what that wired temp sensor looking device sitting on the valve cover is doing there..but we'll get to that...start with above......

Yes the car is running fine.. This car has been sitting in the garage for the most part for oh God 10 years at least . I moved from San Diego to Kingman Az last April and finally got running good enuf to try and drive it here. I had to remove the fuel filter because it would run 30 miles than plug up agin the fuel syste,m was so gummed up.. Now I have time to tinker and maybe enjoy a little tool up Route 66..
Ok the thing on the valve cover well I dont know what is is except it must plug into the intake . Which we will get into later first what is it..
But for now what is the white disc thing.. I will hook it up and see if the engine starts running rough.. I bought a vacuum gage a few weeks ago chasing down vacuum leaks in the windshield wiper cover and headlite vacuum system. Found several some just plain came apart rotten hoses etc etc.. The engine does run a lot better now. Also see the du dad on the left that has a electrical hookup . it has 2 hose connections but no hoses what is it and its function in life..

OK..my engine has been modified with dual Edelbrocks, so I can't go out and see how that linkage looks on my car....BUT, by looking at the pics..the white disk, when vacuum is applied looks as if it pulls back a linkage on your secondaries system...I assume (here I go again) that when you floor the gas pedal, your secondary, rear ports are opening and you're dumping fuel on all 4 barrels..if so, it obviously isn't affecting any linkage movement...I suspect it may have some emission type operation....next...the "du dad" on the valve cover...IT looks, to me, like a cooling system temperature sensor...where it goes, from the picture I dunno...I would follow the wiring back to where ever the wire goes and that should tell you what it's "supposed" to do...again, if the car runs ok, and the gauges/idiot lights are all functioning, it is a un-needed device..lastly, the unit full left, second picture, looks to me, like a vacuum canister much like those used on your headlights...it's function, well, I'd have to go into the Haynes book to see what it is "supposed" to do, if I can find it, I don't have it on my 76, this may also be emission related, as some guys find the emission stuff useless and disconnect anything they think is stealing power....again, you say everything works ok and it runs well, so, I'd say this unit is not needed..
Hope that helps...Happy Holidays

wow, those pics were hard to find, but I found em! (Had to get a registration for photobucket and search for your name). See if these links to the pics work:

http://photobucket.com/albums/d138/r...Picture001.jpg

http://photobucket.com/albums/d138/r...Picture002.jpg

The white thing to the right is your vacuum break

See part #46 in the following diagram:

http://www.442.com/tech/rochparts.html

I am supposed to know what the vacuum break does, but I forget... I think it helps the car run smoother, but isn't really critical. Yours probably leaked so previous owner disconnected it.

Also, that can in the far lower left of one of the pics (not visible in the other pic) is the windshield wiper door actuator and it is not connected... so I guess your wiper door doesnt go up and down. That open tube might be sucking a lot of air if it's not plugged (does not appear to be).

Also, can't see the firewall in the pics so don't know what's going on up there.

I have added another picture to photobucket. You will see a card with an arrow pointing do a device that has 2 vacuum connections and a connector with 2 wires going to it. This is what I am asking about.. Don't seem to interfere with anything . Now the white disc beside the carb I hooked up and it sucks its associated linkage down as soon as the engine is started. My guess it positions the flapper to choke the engine when cold that is MY Guess . But the thing to note here is it is not bad. Turn the engine off and it retracts immediately.
The thing on the valve cover that looks like a temp sensor well there is already one on the radiator hose connection . You can see it . Now underneath this upper radiator hose is another tapped hole that will accept this size sensor.. It is just rusted . I am going to get some penetrating oil next week and try to remove it and install this sensor. But would like to know what it is and its function. I know it is nt to imprtant.. Is it a TCS sensor they refer to in manuals.. Havent got a clue what TCS stands for anyone know??

You need to have your vacuum break hooked up. Neither your choke nor your secondary airvalve will operate correctly without it. For a step-by-step paper on how to set up and adjust your choke, just drop me an e-mail request to:
