Default front end suspension question

I am looking at the upgrade available to replace coil springs with a transverse composite monospring on my '69. Am currently adding a rebuilt 427 to replace the original 350 so will need to replace springs anyway. Has anyone had experience in how well this update works?

I have run both systems with fresh rebuild of bushings etc. in my 73 with a small block. I had b.b. springs 460 lb./in. with the small block which was a little stiff, then switched to the complete vp monospring system. I set the spring rate softer so this helped the ride quality. For normal driving i honestly can't say that i noticed a significant improvement, but with the front & rear kit together it reduced spring/ suspension weight by 60 lb.s & i would do it again even though it is expensive. jim

73C34me,

In addition to being a bit stiffer, did you see any change in the height of the front end when you switched to the bb springs? My front end in my 76 sits a bit low and not sure why.

Thanks, Joe

i can assure you that driving fast on bends with the front transverse kit makes a whole lot of difference, though my experience is with a complete set up with rear FB spring, all round QA1 shoks and new brakes, i never liked the waving driving of my '77 stock set and with this new items the car gets closer to a modern sportcar where it needs to show its value: BENDS!!!!

I did the BB swap last year and haven't change springs yet. Can't really say a notice a difference in handling. I do have aluminum heads, intake, WP and radiator on the BB and I did cut 3/4 coil on the SB coils to lower the front end.

Right now (I don't have a running car) I am building a small block 383 and I have 550# front coil springs with a 360# rear composite and KYB white shocks (I was "funds limited" when I bought them).

I don't have any personal experience, I just know I want to install the front monospring and the composite dual mount rear spring someday. When I do that conversion I'll install Bilstein Sport shocks, or the shocks that VB&P coengineered with Bilstein. I'm a big fan of playing in the twisties.
