Well, we bought it. But we plan to mate it up to the origional 350. (and maybe later 454) My question is, Does a T56 require a special flywheel to be mated to an old motor? i want to use the origional LT1 style hydrolic clutch. the 350 in it has a standard 33lb hayes flywheel. Am i going to have to buy a new one?
The clutch used with the t-56 on Camaros used a pull type throw out bearing. You will have to use a different fly wheel and clutch assembly and throw out bearing. It works nice and smooth with a hydraulic clutch.
The starter is different also, if you can go get it too, that will save lots of money. I can't help you with the fly wheel connecting to the older engine as I also used a Camaro engine. I thought the bolt pattern was the same on the small blocks.
Looking at prices. I am concideirng saving up a bit more (when i get back from Iraq) and just getting an LT1 also. They guy *said*
the tranny had 55,000 miles on it. maybe the clutch is still good? thanks for the input.
It can get pricey. The drive shaft will also have to be shortened, you will need a master cylinder for the clutch, the list goes on then the while I am doing this I will fix this problem. It is a good improvement in the car. My best wishes to you on your way to Iraq. "Duck and cover that is what we learned in grade school, in my time!
