i bought one of these...cheap and works like a charm...
I did the brakes on my 81 a couple of weeks ago and built one of these for about 35.00 total. It worked great and only took about 10min to bleed all four!
I think your point about keeping the tube and collector higher than the caliper is critical. Any air in the tubing will naturally go up thus keeping it from going back into the bleeder screw. I was doing the opposite. I'll have to try again.
It looks like you used an adapter that fits into the bleeder screw. I have some of them, but I've been trying to use one that fits over the outside of the nipple. What are your thoughts.
the better the seal to the bleeder /the less air you will have fight (if you dont have speed bleeders). That little $5 magnetic bottle you see in the pic came from Auto Zone. included were a bunch of black plastic adaptors, one of which inserted real tight into the bleeder. Stick it in & give it a good twist. Give it a try & post back.
Hey folks!!
Now you all have me thinking. I just switched everything to the speed bleeders and flushed all the old fluid out (very dark). Now I am still having the pedal go to the floor (car does stop). One piece that I was reading from you folks is to place the bottle high and not on the floor, which is what I did. What I do not understand is air piece. I thought air could not get back in to the speed bleeders?? If this is correct why should the bottle be placed higher? Also, what is the bottle called it looks easier than what I am doing.
I hope you guys are right, I was about to go out an buy a new booster and master.
you are correct that the speed bleeder shouldnt draw air back in. The bleed bottle/adaptor pictured is what i have used on standard bleeders for a long time. That setup is not needed for speed bleeders (but can be used)and was simply used to take the how-to pic.
The bottle depicted is just a standard brake bleeder bottle found on the rack in any auto parts store. I paid $5 for it yrs ago, they probably cost a little more now.
I regret the confusion and therefore will leave out the part about how the heat from the bulb draws all the air out of the brake system

if you are still having problems get two people and do it the old fashion way....push on pedal open bleeder and close before pedal bottoms out....release pedal start again...

My wife gets a good work out that way.
The corvette is a family project. We have it down to a science all four calipers with tire wheel removal about 1/2 hour, but whee have been doing brake jobs together for almost 8 years.
