so i went to put on my cover on but its hitting the lower
gear (btw i got a timing gear set not a chain) wondering
what the easist way to shave some of the aluminum off
the inside of the cover to gain my clerance required.
if you are having problems now & modify the cover to clear the bottom gear ,I would be concerned about the cam gear walking a little and rubbing the cover.
If it were me I would send the cover to a shop who can cut the whole
area on the back side of the cover OR or take .05 off the gears buy a cover without the bling bling idea of looking good.
maybe slap some clay on the back side then install cover and remove to see how close you really are going to be.

thats what i am trying to do is keep the .005 clearance so it cant walk
in order to do so some of the inside cover has to go

thanks for the info
If this is a pre-86 block with NON-factory roller: With die grinder/dremel ... Clear the cover enough for RUNNING clearance ... then install a cam button to limit cam walk ... install button between top gear & backside of cover. Do not allow chain/gears to rub directly on cover ... not to limit cam walk either ... not for any reason.
as much money as you have spent on the aluminum cover and the gear set i would take to a machine shop and have them shave what you need off so that its done right. would be a shame to hit it with the drimel and cut a hole in the cover.
skulls-
Something that happened to me before was the damn bottom gear was thicker than it was supposed to be. I really didn't know what to think at first-was the bottom gear to thick or top gear not thick enough. I doubt this is your problem, but just in case thought I would share. If you do decide to use the dremmel they make bits specific for aluminum, they have wider serrations so they won't clog up. You have probably figured all this out by now but it may help someone else following the thread.
