I've already posted this under general discussion, I thought maybe someone here might can help. I have a 87 with 400 sbc, 4+3 trans, 375 rear gear, mickey thompson ET street radials 275/40/17. My problem is it spins about 70 or 80 feet, it hooked slightly better 1 time the other day and broke the rear leaf spring, luckily I have a parts car. My question is how can I hook it and not break any more springs?
Have you tried using your right foot? I have managed a 1.72' 60' on a 245/45/17 Falken Street Tire (not DR). I have found that if I lightly "shock" the tires when the light turns, let off momentarily, and then ease back into the throttle feeling for grip I can launch without any spin, and it isn't from a lack of power.
It might be a good idea to post this in the Drag Racing section.
From what I have learned, Drag Radials are best suited for cars with automatic transmissions. They don't take the hard hit of a dumped clutch well, but do respond to the more gradually applied torque from an automatic. For a manual car at the track, conventional slicks or ET's are better. As for breaking parts, there are guys in the DR section running C4's that would know.
