Chatter Chatter
So I have had quite a bit of chatter in my newly rebuilt '78 350 stock this past week. I take it in, and the tell me the nuts on the rockers under the valve covers are loose causing the sounds and chatter. So...100 bucks later I think I'm golden...
Well, I start to get chatter about 100 miles later and I take it back in. They fool around for about 15 minutes and discover one of my spark plugs wasn't working...changed it out, and it sounds and runs fine.
Then, the next afternoon, I fill my baby up and BAM!! More chatter, usually happens when I'm accelerating between gears (stick shift). I haven't taken it back in because I fear its my headers? And I really don't feel like getting raped with the price.
Hopefully y'all can help me figure out my problem and if it is my heads, make some good recommendations on brand type and so on (prices + labor est.). I'm still a newb in training, so as much detail is appreciated.
Thanks Everyone!!
Dan
Oh, I just moved out here to Katy, TX. And I don't have access to tools anymore...but if anyone out here in Katy who loves to work on these cars and wants to help me out I would be very grateful.
I can't imagine that you having head troubles first thing after a rebuild. It is possible that the nuts that hold your rocker arms are backing off, it is not totally unheard of. If that is the case, I would take it back to the guys that looked at it and have them fix it on their dime.
