I've spent all day building a garage for my 68 vert and when I went to move it from a neighbors backyard (been there since January covered) the muncie was jammed? How is this possible? It seemed like it was stuck in first but I was able to shift it left and forward into reverse even though when you let off the clutch the car didn't do anything. No forward movement no rear movement! When i pop it out of the reverse position it looks like it should be in neutral but when you let off the clutch it goes forward (like first gr) When in this position I cannot move it into second or any other gears. I have a muncie 4sp mated to a 454. The muncie has a hurst shifter. PLEASE GUYS HELP ME OUT! I will tackle this tomorrow and next week. I've had my heart set on a beautiful suspension package, offset trailing arms and side pipes that are not cheap and was putting all my money saved towards that so I hope there is an easy fix for the trans. Please all advice welcomed. Thanks
It is stuck in a gear, and in another at the same time. Jack the Vette up with the shifter in neutral, and crawl underneath and see which lever on the trans. is still in gear. You should be able to return it to neutral. Now it should shift ok, but plan on a shifter rebuild or replacement.

like the others said this is not a big deal....you need to get under the car and have some shift it and watch the linkage as it goes into the gears...you will be able to see how it should be just reach up and grab the levers and put them in neutral. you have it stuck in a gear....did some take apart this linkage lately?
Thanks guys. Advice worked. The first/second gear linkage knuckle was getting caught on the corner of the second/third gear knuckle. Not sure why this occurs but it was a lot of fun being on my back and under the car. I sawz-all'ed the duel exhaust out. Bubba ran huge custom headers into a 4" collector into maybe 2 inch pipe with 90 degree welded bends and pipes that couldn't flow air with a turbine attached. Must have handicaped the engine by 70% of its power. Sidepipes here we come! I've got some pics of other weeee-taaded repairs/mods on the car, I'll have to post links this week so you can have a good laugh...but its safe to say Bubba lived in Georgia late last year and was nice enough to pass me his handywork. Anyway, thanks for your advice...a new hurst shifter package will have to be in the works to avoid these knuckle bindups in the future. Thanks again.
Your Hurst shifter can be reconditioned by Hurst for about $90 and a lot less than the $260 price tag of a new unit. Look it over carefully, they are strong units that last and last. Your linkage may not be installed properly on the trans levers which will cause it to hang up. Check that, clean and lubricate and your problem may be solved.
