Default Over heater

My 79 has a 6-71 dyers blower with 2 4's and the temp runs all the way up to 230+ and that scares me I would like to see it stay under 200 heres the question will an aluminuim radiator such as dewitts coupled with my dual electric flex a lites keep it cool or do I need different "better" fans. I know theres a lot of knowledgable people out there so please help.

you need to know what the temp is in the radiator. DO the fans cycle? Could be you need a hi flo water pump. Aluminum Radiator would help cool it off, but the problem could be simpler

Do the fans have a shroud? Do you have an air deflector under the nose?

Verify that your temp gauge is truly giving an accurate reading first. Then go from there.

Default yes

Gauge is correct bought a new one it is mechanical. No I don't have room for a shroud due to the blowers drive belt and yes I have the lower spoiler/air dam

The lack of a shroud is contributing to the problem. An aluminum rad plus better fans will get you in the park. You might also consider adding a pace car spoiler. It did wonders in lowering my temps. I removed my tag bracket also. That helps get more air to the radiator.

Heat is a variable to horsepower. The more horsepower you make, the more heat you make.

I'm not an engineer or a mathematician, but there are formulas you can use to determine how much heat your engine transfers to the coolant and how much heat a radiator can remove.

As much as I like my DeWitts radiator and as well made as they are, if they don't make a real big one for your application or their existing ones don't meet your capacity needs, then it's just not going to work.

You can guess and hope it comes out right, but you're just rolling the dice.

Give Tom a call and see if he can offer some expertise.

At the risk of batman coming in and claiming I'm just trying to sell something.....

I think we do make a pretty big one. In fact, all C3 radiators are huge in comparison to C2 and C4. Most C3 don't even need aluminum because the cores are so large. Now when you do upgrade to an equal size aluminum, you got a lot of cooling. Then add the dual fans and you have a ****t load of cooling. Of course, confirm your temps, IR gun, 50/50, etc. If everything checks out, an aluminum radiator will help

Can someone please explain to me why you would need a shroud if there were dual electric fans being used, I know that blown motors run hotter then naturally aspirated motors but guys have been doing it for years without any major problems,,,, how do they do it besides making sure that every part of the cooling system is working like it should ? Thanks,,,Peace, Moosie
