Finished my rear end and have now turned my attention to the front on my 70 SB. Suspension is out and I pulled the radiator and water pump. Decided to upgrade to rack and pinion, front monospring, and replace the radiator with aluminum and high flow water pump.
Well now I decided since I am half way there, why not crack the engine open and fiddle.
So I ordered an Edelbrock Performance Package, 750 cfm carb, and new lifters, pushrods, etc from Summitracing. Summit says I will have clearance issues of about an inch with the setup. Will an L88 hood allow for additonal clearance or is there something else I can do to the stock hood. Appreciate any help.
I just finished up with a Vette today, Performer manifold, Barry Grant Speed Demon 650, drop-base air cleaner assy. with a 2-1/2 K+N air filter. Close, but it fit under a '69 with a stock small block hood.
Shashi,
Originally I had the same set up as BigG, Performer manifold and 650cfm Speed Demon which fitted fine in my 70, but when I changed to an Air GAp manifold and Edelbrock Carb I had to go to the L88 hood.
1980, I have RPM Manifold, 650 Holly, 1 1/4" Drop Base 14" x 3" K&N X-Stream filter. I have a scoop but if I did not it would still fit with about 1/2" clearance.
Thanks for feedback. I was more concerned that I'd have to get a custom hood if it doesn't fit. At the very least I know I can use an L88 hood, which isn't so bad.
Personally I'd ditch that edelbrock carb for something else, but that's just me. Might have better luck with clearing the hood with a different carb, too.
Nice choice. The RPM package rocks. You will need to spend some time on the tech line getting that carb tuned in. The Edelbrock carb can be a real pain in the butt if it is off (known for bogging like a dog). However, once tuned and matched you will be thrilled. The RPM package works very well.

Graemeinvette,
Just wondering how the Air Gap is working-out for you. I'm having some work done on my '69 350 with roller valve train. They're reccommending an Air Gap with a Holley 770cfm Street Avenger. I'm really worried that this is too much carb and I'll lose a lot of low-end torque.
