As much as I hate missing out on a good deal, and it figures this one comes exactly at the right time when I have the heads off, you are right. Now I have to decide what the next big purchase will be next year - heads, cam, and intake or Keisler TKO 5 spd! I need to start a new career as a bank robber!

For a 406 those 170 heads are tiny. The 195s will work better. That cam you have is very small for a 406 also. I am building a 383 with 195s now. I am using a cam with 252/260 @ .050 and a lift of 540/555. The 195 heads are even marginal for this motor. You need at least a 195 head for your 406. It will definitly be better tha nthe heads you have now.

One thing you could do is buy the AFR's and sell the Edelbrocks, the AFR's are good heads and you will make some good power. Once you sell the Edelbrocks you could break even or only be out a couple of hundred at most, you will be happier with the AFR's.

Are the AFR's fully assembled, and if so make sure you can use the springs or you will have to change the springs and that's another $100-200

What about another scenario, forget about the AFR 195s, what if I slapped on a set of AFR 210s and changed nothing else, would that make a significant difference in my bottom line?

You would need a bigger cam to really take advantage of the 210 heads. But yes it would help.

Oh man, I don't like where my train of thought is heading about this! Seems like my wallet has caught on, and has gone into hiding! I think I have to give my head a shake, I mean its not like the car runs bad or doesn't make any power, 330 rwhp and 380 rwtq is pretty respectable for 170cc heads, but just the thought of what could be has my head spinning!

With a 406 and a good cam and 210 heads numbers in the 450 to 480 RWHP are not unheard of. HP only costs $$$$

Id say around 800 dollars for a pretty good port and flow job. A full out race job is around 2000.

The keisler 5-speed is definately going to help the acceleration. It will make your 3.55 feel like a 4.56 and boy is that a difference.

Just a thought.

The Keisler 5 spd is definately on my to-do list, I can't stand my 3 spd auto any more, mostly from a fuel economy point of view. Currently my car get <10mpg, and I don't drive it as often as I'd like because of that. The difference in acceleration and top speed would also be nicely appreciated!

I would hold off on those 195's, there will always be good deals coming up if you have patience. I bought my Dart 200's from a friend who had race ported them for a speed shop in the US. Guy who was having his vette done backed out of the deal, I got the heads c/w race porting for less than the cost of them new from Summit. Good luck but most definately go with bigger heads and cam.

I have to agree with Star79. I feel like you could definitly sell the those RPM heads in order to pay off a good chunk of that 800 dollars you need for the AFRs. You will still have over a grand to play with if you do that. do iiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
