Default Adjustable Vacuum Advance

Who has one and is it worth it. Is it good for a street motor and how hard is it to adjust to the correct vacuum.

It's junk. You can control the amount of vacuum for a very short time, then it gives full advance at low vacuum levels. That's what mine did. Your results may vary. Figure out how much vacuum you want, and buy the proper canister.

... junk, tossed mine in the garbage. was not able to adjust the canister to Lars timing sheet. i used canister VC1765 which i purchased from napa for $11. you may need a different type depending on your distributor & trans type.

I tossed mine and got the correct one from the auto parts store. Cost about 12 bucks. The adjustable one never was coorect.

You could set it up yourself if you have a Mity-Vac. Set the tension so that the canister will be fully deployed at a vacuum setting that is 2" lower than your engine idle vacuum. Example: If you have 12" of manifold vacuum at idle, you want the canister to be all the way in at 10" of vacuum. That way you can hook it up to manifold vacuum and the idle will be stable.

The amount of vacuum advance degrees is some times limited with an add-on eccentric cam inside the distributor. Not the best setup but that is what comes in the aftermarket kit. You can set that so you get about 52 degrees total from the sum of the initial setting + all the centrifugal + all the vacuum advance.

Buying the right canister in the first place is probably easier and it is definately cheaper.
