Default A/c Lines?

Any of you guys know what the differance in the compressor a/c lines between a 77 and 79? I have a late model 77 with the r-4 short compressor on it and one of our members is parting out a 79. I looked on ecklers and the pictures show the 79 to have what looks like a muffler in the line and the 77 did not. I dont know why the 79 would not work this is not a concours restoration.

I don't believe there is a muffler on the 79 hose. The hard line that runs to the condenser has a block (see picture) in it that is not shown in the AIM. I think it might be a service port, not sure if it's needed

That block is the sight glass and pressure cut off switch on the discharge side of the system. The muffler you are looking for is actually the dryer/filter and is located next to the evaporator on the passenger side of the engine compartment near the fire wall. This dryer should be replaced when the system is opened. I would think that the AC system in a 77 & 79 are the same. As long as you have all the components it should work. You also should put in a new orifice valve in the system especially if you're going to use R134A as the new refrigerant.
